Led by an eighth-place finish by Katie Wilson, the Notre Dame Preparatory High School girls varsity golf team finished second in the Arizona Interscholastic Association Division II  state tournament on October 24 at the Omni Tucson National in Tucson.

“Our goal was to place better than last year, and we did,” said Wilson, a four-year NDP golf team member.

The par for the course was a 73, and Wilson scored a 70 on the first day, and a 73 on the second day. In order to qualify for state, the team had to place well at previous matches. Coached by Ms. Shelly Dingus, the 11-person team qualified five girls to compete at state.

Jordan Weaver placed 16th, followed by Brielle Ruscitti, who tied for 17th. Emily Munn finished in 21st place and Sofia Blavatsky was 40th, aiding in the second-place finish for NDP with a two-day stroke score of 648, behind state champion Cactus Shadows High School, with a score of 606.

When asked how the team played, Wilson said, “We played pretty well. We had three girls in the top 20 individually.”
