Hope Kids Day will have a western theme when NDP hosts the seventh annual event on campus 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28.

Hope Kids Day is a day of fun that high school students put on for terminally ill children and their families.

Senior Angela Patrick, Hope Kids co-chair, said, “You can expect about 400 cowboys and cowgirls to show up this year.”

Patrick and co-chair senior Erica Wishkerchen oversee a student committee that organizes the event.

Clubs and sports teams have been asked to contribute by running a booth or game.  An example given by senior Baking Club secretary Samantha Barrett is that Baking Club will run a cake walk featuring western music.

Barrett said of last year’s cake walk, “I really enjoyed watching them get excited about winning something.  It was really great to be a part of that.”

Students can sign up to help out for the day on X2vol.  Patrick said the reason she volunteers is because “I like seeing that I can do something to brighten a kid’s day.”
