The 2016 cross country team ran in its first meet on Aug. 31 at Papago Park, competing against Arcadia High School.  Here, the girls running in the varsity race stand at the starting line, waiting to hear the “go” that will mark the beginning of their 3.1 mile battle against the elements. The majority of the team considered the route to be confusing; it looped around several times in such a way that a few competitors headed in the wrong direction. From the time of the JV race at 5:15 p.m., to girls’ varsity at 5:45 p.m., to boys’ varsity at 6:25 p.m., the 100-plus degree temperature did not relent; however, it did not stop the runners from finishing the course.  Speaking for herself as well as assistant coaches Mr. Thomas Coast and Mr. Bill Galbraith, head coach Mrs. Lisa Rawlings stated, “The coaches are pleased with the efforts, particularly in light of a challenging (confusing), long (3.25 mile) course with excessively high temperatures.” In the end, Arcadia took the win, with the final score at 31 to 24.  Despite the rocky start, the coaches claimed to be hopeful for a great season.
