“Still alive,” “saucin’ and tossin,’” and “We made playoffs” are just a few of the popular quotes from the seniors on the 2015-16 varsity team that made it to the playoffs.

And despite a close loss in the first game of the playoffs, the team has done an adequate job this season.

The team had an overall record of 8-11. The team did make it to playoffs, but in the first game against Tucson, they lost 2-1, on an error, in the 11th inning.

There are 10 seniors on the varsity team, some of whom will continue to play baseball in college. Here are the seniors:

And let’s not forget senior, Maria Kraus, who was team manager.NDP_VarBaseball_SR Nite-37-X2

The team seemed to have a lot of fun this season. For example, they were able to take a part in the age-old tradition of seniors choosing the walkup songs for the freshmen. Some of the walkup songs that the seniors chose included the Teletubbies theme song and “Fruit Salad” from The Wiggles.

FullSizeRenderJames Smith said, “The songs were funny, but coach told us not to play them anymore.” He added, “We should have chosen worse songs,” singing “Fruit Salad.”

But more than just fun and shenanigans, the team worked hard. According to Coach Brian Fischer, the team “starts by warming up and then goes into individual drills, specific for their positions and then ends by hitting live on the field.”

He added that this summer he “would like the guys to take some time off during the summer from baseball and get into the weight room to get stronger.”

Coach Fischer also said of the graduating seniors: “I will miss them all. You form a bond with these kids for four years, and now they are moving on to bigger and better things. Some do come back to get into coaching, and that is rewarding to see them give back.”NDP_VarBaseball_SR Nite-39-X2

Besides just the seniors on the team, there are a total of eight underclassman boys who play varsity:

G Cancilla: P
Tyler Cranston: OF
Jared Farquar: P
Matthew Metz: OF
Ben Nemivant: P/OF
Nick O’Brien: P/NF
Luke Patty: INF
Joe Terlizzi: C/INF

These underclassmen have big shoes to fill. Good job this season, Saints!
